FUN IN FIN FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS

You have to be over 18 to buy alcohol or nicotine from the store in Finland. If you are 18 there are some great bars and night clubs to spend an evening. If you just want to hang out with couple friends and maybe play some board games while drinking, Seurahuone in Aleksanterinkatu is usually a good place for that. If you like to party, there is Jackalope in Vesijärvenkatu. You have to pay 4-8e to get in depending on what time or day you are visiting. On Saturday you have to go there before eleven to get in if you are under 20. There is also Wintti in Vapaudenkatu, but that is usually limited to age 20. In Rautatienkatu there is Mugi, which is smaller than those, but it is also cheaper and has “happy hours” until 24. Usually you have to pay minimum 6e for drink but on Wednesdays we have “hanat” in Amarillo and Mugi, so you only have to pay 1-3e for beer, cider and long drinks. WINTER IN LAHTI In winter you should try at least one of these following things: hole in the ice (avanto), skiing, cross country skiing, messilä, snow shoeing, iceskating, ski jumps and ice fishing. There is also nice outdoor terrains where you can spend a day enjoyind the nature and grilling sausage in the hut. Evo is a great example for that! Movies, bowling and billiard is also always a nice way to spend time in here. At Vapaudenkatu you can play billiard at Seiväs, watch movies at Finnkino and bowl at Hohtokeila Lahti. SUMMER IN LAHTI You can go hiking to the forrest, picnics at Satama and everywhere near Satama, row boats, swimming, biking, canoeing, visiting Suomenlinna, outdoor pool at ski hill and Summer Up- festival! At Hollola, Uskila we have Kiikunlähde, natural source. It is beautiful and also Finland’s biggest source pool. Introduce yourself Hei, I’m Calista and I’m from the USA. The first time I came to Finland was to become a Rotary Exchange Student, and then I decided to come back and study at LAMK for university. What is your favorite thing about Finland? I really like Finnish nature and how honest everyone is, you don’t ever have to worry about being robbed or anything. Why did you choose to come to Lahti? I liked Lahti because it’s close to Helsinki and it’s not a small city, but everyone knows everyone. What is your favorite free time activity in Lahti?
